I was parking for more than 4 hours today. You charged me 16 pounds

Aug 21, 2011

Watch out for the tight entrance on level 1 by the lifts at the Merseyside Police HQ end. There's plenty of evidence on the red painted boarding adjacent to the left-hand ticket dispenser that many cars have found it just too tight to negotiate without scuffing their front near-side bumper and/or wheel arch against the red-painted boarding. I know I did and it will cost a 3-figure sum to repair! Add that to the already expensive parking fee (£7 for just over two-and-a-half hours) and you've got a very costly parking experience! Exit signage for drivers is poor & counter intuitive. All of the above said, I have yet to raise the matter with John Lewis (didn't see a parking attendant during my visit yesterday) to see what response I get from them. Security appeared to be reasonable and the car park is close to L1 shops, etc.

Parking in Liverpool

Car parking in the city of Liverpool is hassle free as there are numerous parking facilities available in and around the city centre.

Liverpool City Council operates two types of parking facilities in the city centre:

- Street 'pay and display' bays.
- Off-street 'pay and display' bays.

There are over 1500 on-street parking spaces in the city centre which operate on a 'pay and display' basis. The charge hours are 8am - 6pm, seven days a week, and the fees are as follows:

Inner zone
Up to ½ hour: £1.00
Up to 1 hour: £2.00
Up to 1½ hours: £3.00
Up to 2 hours: £4.00

Outer zones
Up to ½ hour: 70p
Up to 1 hour:  £1.40
Up to 1½ hours: £2.10
Up to 2 hours: £2.80

The City Council also operates a number of 'pay and display' off-street car parks that have charges payable seven days a week. Finally, large car park operators such as NCP and Q-Park also manage a number of car parks across the city centre.
