I got a £85 fine for parking for 46 minutes? I thought it was supposed to be 2 hours maximum. What a scam.

Awful signage and information isn’t clear enough

Apr 13, 2023

I brought my neighbour who has just had a hip replacement shopping and as she could not walk fast we took our time shopping, spent nearly £100 saw no signs and got a ticket yesterday for £85 for exceeding parking time allowed disgraceful

Awful. No signs to say when petrol station would be open. Went in at 6:30am before work. Petrol wasn’t on. Walked about in park until 7am when I thought it would be open… still wasn’t so left… and now have a £85 fine! If the shop and petrol are not open, why do you not simply close the barriers to avoid this happening?

This is a disgusting scam. Never use this car park they don't display any signs. Shopped in sainsbury for under 2 hours and recieved a fine for £85 (£50 if paid within 2wks). Truly disgraceful. Will never shop there again!

I parked for 1 hour 10 minutes at the Sainsburys Bethnal Green temporary car park 10/12/2022. No visible signage about charges. £85 fine. Pure banditry. Shame on Sainsburys

It’s disgraceful that they only allow 1hr parking when people come to do monthly shopping.

Parking information not clearly displayed, there should be clear signs reminding people that parking is only for Two hours. My daughter and I recently shopped at Sainsbury’s Whitechapel and did not notice any signs stating time limit on parking. Today I got a fine for £85 or £50 if I pay within 14 days of issue date. Unfortunately for us we spent 2 hrs 35mins in the store spending nearly £300.00 on shopping for holiday cloths, toys for birthdays and food. Surly with so many departments in one store the time limit should be at least 3 hours!

be very careful, stay rather 10 min less

Overall, this is an excellent car park for customers only. I cannot emphasise this part strong enough. Customers only. Do not leave your car parked in this car park to do shopping in the local car park or to go to the local hospital. You will end up paying a £50 fine for overstay and people have the nerve to justify their argument that parking in a Central London car park is free(!). There are travelators and lifts to the car park which is generally well lit and maintained nicely. The lights above the bays help a lot (green/red) and the two storey car park means theres always a space.

Parking in Shad Thames (London, SE1)

Shad Thames, also known as Butler's Wharf, is an area in South London bounded by the River Thames, Tower Bridge Road, Tooley Street, Mill Street and St. Saviour's dock.

Parking around Shad Thames can be a bit difficult during the day if you do not have an allocated residential parking permit, as the area is within a Controlled parking zone (CPZ), meaning that only residents can park on some of the streets Mon-Fri 8:30-18:30.

If you are visiting the area on a weekday during the day, use pay and display or there is a also Q-Park car park on Gainsford street which is in the heart of Shad Thames.
