Car had window and back windscreen smashed would never us this car park again. There’s no cctv but plenty of parking wardens saying they’ve seen nothing

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE of this appalling scam car park. I would review zero stars if I could. As other reviews have stated, this is very much a cash cow for Manchester City Council. As you drive in you won't easily see any signs stating 'pay upon arrival', and there are no ticket barriers, so you assume its like every other carpark in the UK nowadays that uses ANPR. Not so. For some unknown reason, its the distant past here and you are expected to pay and display (except you don't actually get a ticket to put on your dashboard) beforehand, using your psychic premonition power to know how long you're going to stay here for your visit. Of course, you won't actually know this until you arrive back to your car and find a yellow parking ticket envelope on your windscreen.

Avoid at all costs . Awful facilities and scamming people for parking as pay on arrival but machine doesn’t give receipts

Aug 6, 2023

We love paying for a few hours of stay, leaving before the limit and getting a ticket for not paying, do not park here again, go to a car park that has pay on entry

Apr 10, 2023

Wondered what all the wardens was for, no clear signage you have to pay on arrival. Went to pay on exiting and was declined so paid on app, parking up later I noticed a ticket, avoid, filthy too, you would think all the money they must rake in they could clean it up a bit, can imagine it’s a muggers paradise

totally scam, paid on arrival and still got ticket

Jan 10, 2023

Paid on the app, but returned to find a ticket on my car. Tried to look up the PCN to appeal and "It can't be displayed". Now I'm in no mans land waiting to see if they'll pursue this. In addition, access to the car park after the theatre is via some side door (as the shopping centre closes) that I couldn't find. I had to walk up the road where I'd entered in my car. As a lone female I felt very unsafe in this car park late at night. Would not recommend.

Apparently, you now have to pay on arrival. Not well signposted either, it's only when you look for machines when leaving that you realize. Also took a further 1 hour and 40 minutes of queuing to exit the car park. Avoid,

I parked on the top level. I saw a sign saying I had to pay on entry. I walked all the way down to the ground floor and could not find a ticket machine or a sign showing the location number. I phoned the number for parking and asked for the location number. They said they don't give it out. They gave me the level numbers of the parking machines, so I had to leave my family and go and find one. If I just had the location number I would not have to hunt out a machine. If they had more signs around the car park with the location number I could just pay by app when I park. This experience ruined my shopping trip.

Same as everyone else it seems though it was anpr came back to a ticket. Looks like they have deliberately done it to squeeze extra money out of people. I expect there's alot of people who have been scammed by this who haven't complained and like myself will never go again.

Conned by this carpark today. No signs on entry to indicate that you have to pay on arrival. No ticket machines on level 11 so assumed it was number recognition, then got a penalty notice when we returned to car. AVOID

May 29, 2022

Wondered what all the car park attendants were doing. I must have spotted around 6 on arrival scouring the car park looking for victims. Then realised on leaving that it was pay on arrival. No signs had indicated that when I arrived only when I went to pay on leaving. I did pay but not sure it will work. Anyway I appear to have been lucky as no ticket on my car but now a couple of weeks waiting for a letter. Any how’s better signage and staff telling you not to forget rather than lurking around the different levels would help. Also car park was grim and filthy. If this is part of reducing cars coming into Manchester plan the I’d say it’s pretty successful as I will certainly think twice and go to the traffic centre.

Good location but the access to the shopping centre is dirty. Lifts dirty - discarded soiled underwear, urine, spit and rubbish in the lifts. Car park also full of litter.

Feb 7, 2022

Absolute scam. I paid upon arrival but when I returned to my car a few hours later, found a £50 fine for supposedly not paying. The payment machine did not give a receipt after I paid (upon arrival at the car park) so the parking wardens must not know how to operate whatever app/device they have to check which registrations have paid. Or maybe this is a tactic from the council to scam people out of their hard-earned cash. Absolute SCAM and will not be shopping at Arndale again.

Jan 13, 2022

Can't even give it 1 star so it's a zero from me. Like some other people got caught out with this system on paying it's all a con.

Dec 22, 2021

Trying to pay later, as there was no clear indication of paying, no way to pay on the way out, poor system... does anyone know how I can pay for a ticket after exit?

Dec 15, 2021

Not clear signs on how to pay - conning people before Xmas by removing ticket machine on entry and employing several parking warrants to issue tickets deliberately. Disgusting behaviour

Conned by this carpark today. No signs on entry to indicate that you have to pay on arrival. No ticket machines so assumed it was number recognition, then got a penalty notice when we returned to car. AVOID,,

Nov 13, 2021

No clear indication that it is pay on arrival, the signs that display the terms ect. Are difficult to read they are not clear and concise. If you plan to park here, make sure you have precognition of how long you plan to stay!

Oct 10, 2021

Terrible car park. Used to be pay on leave so you could pay for the time used. Now you have to buy a ticket on entry and guess how long you will be shopping. I also saw a large amount of cars with tickets and a half dozen attendants circling like vultures. The new system seems predatory to get as many tickets as possible to prop up the council coffers

Sep 20, 2021

What a rotten car park, they have changed the parking to pay on entry, but the signs are small and inconspicuous. I have been using this car park twice a year for years. Now they have changed the parking system and I got a ticket, so did a lot of other users. Make sure you pay on arrival if you use this car park. It's not obvious, but you will get a ticket within half an hour of arrival if you don't. I won't be visiting Manchester again.

Jul 27, 2021

Avoid! pre-pandemic this car park was on ticket obtained on entry then pay on leaving, went today and encountered barriers up so thought it was ANPR system. Got a parking fine whilst within the car park. Turns out it's a Pay and Display now BUT NO SIGNAGE DISPLAYED! Even when I paid at the machine on leaving, still didn't ask me how many hours I needed... What a SCAM!!!

Going to the theatre, this seemed the best option: no hunting for an on-street place and close to where we were going. Entry after 5pm means a £5 charge (something the NCP site implies is only available if you book in advance) so the cost was ok too. But the problems started on finding a space on an even-numbered floor. How do you get to the lift / stairs on the odd-numbered floors without walking up or down a 'no pedestrians' ramp? I still don't know: everyone else was doing it. After the show, how do you get back to the car? Although it's advertised as a 24hr car park, the Arndale Centre was thoroughly locked up. The door from the lifts we'd used to leave was locked up. Walking all around the building - losing the advantage of location - we didn't spot any alternative to walking up (and up and up) the 'no pedestrians!!' vehicle ramps. Fortunately, no-one else was using the one we were on, otherwise we#d have been looking for somewhere to stay until the morning.

The early bird park all day for 4.10 is great for centre of Mcr. Lifts take you into Arndale so all undercover.

Mar 26, 2015

Lost my ticket and the staff could not have been more helpful. Really good service

Dec 10, 2012

My daughter works in Arndale and NCP staff are a nighmare, taking ridiculous amounts of time to validate tickets for staff AND from 1st Dec they are stopping validating Arndale staff tickets for Christmas period, making them either park large distance from Arndale n forcing them to walk in the dark and alone OR making them pay well over the odds to park there JUST to go to work!!!

Jun 18, 2012

Hiniously expensive There's a guy in the security cabin who is the rudest, most unprofessional jobsworth person on the planet - how he is employed and representing Manchester Arndale is beyond me. You work in a car park mate - get over yourself.

Parking in Manchester

Off-street (Commercial Car Parks)

Manchester City Council has a joint venture with NCP Car Parks for off-street parking (i.e. commercial car parks) and encourages visitors to use an NCP car park during their stay.

The following car parks usually fill up before 11am:

- King Street West
- Exchange
- M&S
- Market Place

The following car parks usually have space available:

- Arndale and Printworks (over 2200 space combined)
- Grand Hotel (5 mins walk to Piccadilly)

Three free Metroshuttle buses go past most of the car parks and around the city regularly so you can leave the car in the cheapest car park in the city centre for a long stay and don't need to move the car, although this does mean using public transport. Route map on the TfGM website.

On Street (Pay & Display)

On street parking (i.e. pay and display) in Manchester city centre is divided into hourly zones: one hour, two hour and three hour zones.

Further information can be found by clicking on the coloured zones on the map or by visiting Manchester County Council website.
