Newbury Retail Park

Again shocked to be fined for shopping and eating! How can that be right and encourage local shopping!

Received a fine of £170 today the 17th of March for over staying the car park on the 17th of December. Due to standing in long lines to buy Christmas gifts and then traffic going out . I’m only on maternity pay which is £156 a week so the fine is already more than what I get … I’m just after getting out of hospital with twin boys and this is what I receive. As well as saying I have 14 days it pay the fine from the date issued which was the 9th of March but yet only received the letter today which doesn’t leave me a lot of time plus not having the funds to pay that as I have newborns to buy formula for which isn’t cheap and twins take double the amount . I think £170 is way to extreme and is ridiculous for over staying by a short time due to traffic and long lines . That’s being very very greedy and stealing money from people . Actually disgusted by it

3 hours ridiculous. First and last time shopping in Newbury. Received fine for £170 which I am challenging. Didn't even buy anything. Shops busy and traffic terrible. It took 20/25 minutes to get parked and same again to get out. Once again ridiculous.

Spent an afternoon shopping only to get a fine! Won’t bother to go back. I was only over due to having to que when leaving.

I was sent a fine in Jan 2023 for £100 or £60 if paid in 14 days.I successfully appealed this illegal fine as I could prove I wasn't in the car park at the times they alleged.I have now complained to the car park company & currently waiting for a reply regarding comments I have made to them as of why have they sent me a fine when I have not broken any car parking rules.Civil enforcement are complete bully's who will stope at anything to get money from fines.Always check your Google timeliness as it gives you really good information as to your location at certain times & this along with other proof I had was why civil enforcement cancelled my fine.I will not let this matter rest until they give me a reason why they think they can just send me a fine illegally & expect me to sit back & take it on the chin & a simple apology on my cancellation letter is not good enough.

I was horrified yesterday to find a £100 fine in my post was sent on the 31 Dec arrived on the 6th January I went shopping there on the 23 December Tried to leave and the whole car park was packed everyone trying to leave at the same time so I was sat in my car for about 40mins I was only over by 20mins not my fault as we couldn’t move for the traffic trying to get out Disgusting angry after all it was Christmas only went shopping there spent money and to be fined is just unbelievable Charging people when it wasn’t even my fault that I couldn’t get out on time You should be ashamed of yourselves

I am shocked to have received a £100 parking fine through the post today. I didn't see any signs while I was there and didn't even consider there was a maximum limit as retail parks are usually free so you can shop and eat at your leisure. I spent hundreds of pounds doing my Christmas shopping here and thought it was a great place, but I won't be returning. 3 hours is unreasonable.

I now have a CCJ against me due these horrible people which is having a serious impact on securing a mortgage. Go elsewhere! Don't shop or eat here.

I was fined for over-staying the 3 hour limit by a small margin. Appeal was considered by the parking fine collection firm, not by any impartial body. Left wondering as a visitor to Newbury how this benefits the economic growth of the town? A failure of joined-up thinking. Also wondered why the law allows the publicly funded DVLA to share my personal information with the private sector in this way.

Disgusting that you spend the time looking round the shops and have something to eat and get charged £100 and for not even being 10 mins over, also maybe you should make your signs bigger and clearer. There is no machine to add money for parking. Also remember not all people can walk fast, some people have disabilities so it takes them longer. All these parking companies are greedy and to be honest I can see why people would rather shop online then be slammed with a £100 fine.

Just received a fine as i accidentally went over 3 hours! Disgraceful I’d have happily paid for parking but not £100!

Its a disgrace and extremely greedy of them to charge you £100 if you go over, especially as you more than likely spend a great deal of money in the shops, I will not be spending another penny in this greedy retail park.

Shopping here the last weekend before Christmas to get presents because of covid had to wait longer and queue longer .to get a ticket on Christmas eve for £60.wot a joke they are

I received my fine this morning - as the rest of you disgusted with this fine - my fine only shows my entry time so I have asked for proof of my departure time. They stated I over stayed by 20 minutes but it took me 10 minutes to find a parking space and about 15 minutes queued up to get out the place - so technically I only parked for 2 hours 55 mins - I will appeal. Plus we have tried to support local shops but these actions are playing into Amazon’s hand - R.I.P. High Street shops.

I took my elderly mum and her elderly friend for a trip to Currys to buy a DVD player. I thought we would go to the shops instead of ordering online as, due to Covid, the shops need our support. We also shopped in TK Max, M&S and had a lovely lunch there and then Boots. I didn't realise that we were photographed in and out of the car park. Where I live retail parks are free. I was visiting my mum, so not familiar with the local car parks. It also took time to unload the ladies and get them around the shops they wanted to visit and then load them up again. Three hours is not enough if you have children or old people to consider. What a shock to receive a £100 fine for going 13 minutes over the allotted 3 hours. I cannot believe this, it feels like a real injustice! If people stop going there people will loose their jobs and these cowboys will get nothing. I am going to appeal, I am absolutely furious. I will not go there again and will order on line in future. STAY AWAY FROM THIS RETAIL PARK.

I received a PCN notice claiming I stayed overnight when in fact I had made 2 visits on consecutive day lasting less than 15 mins.I phoned them an appealed and they cancelled it. I guess the figure people wont appeal.I recommend appealing.

All of you, stop paying the fines! Read the terms and conditions carefully and fight it! They can’t fine you for going a few minutes over the limit because the terms refer to “parking” for longer. The ANPR cameras capture you on entry and exit to the car park, but make no record of how long it takes you to actually get parked or how long to actually get out of the car park. You simply state you were PARKED for less than the allowed time and they will be unable to prove otherwise. We need to start fighting back against these parking cowboys.

Just got my £100.fine today,after spending a lot more on Christmas shopping and getting a drink and a bite to eat,what a horrible,disgusting place!!I hadn't even noticed the parking restrictions,why have eateries if you can't relax over a snack,have to keep checking your watch all the time.Screw you and have a rotten christmas.!!

Thank you Newbury retail park. Having spent three and a half hours shopping and eating here, I am fined £60. Never again! Another nail in retail shopping. Well done.

Horrible place. Parking charges over 3 hrs is very horrendous and unfair. They should change the system by paying hourly rather fine people. It cost me 100 pound over 18 mins .

Avoid this place!! Absolutely horrible, visited on a Sunday thinking its like everywhere else (free on Sundays) as I couldnt see a sign about the 3 hour limit where I was parked and boom £100 fine! I had my 2 year old and 2month old with me, having lunch took us a while with feeding them both and myself, being Sunday it was rather busy with the ques. Screw you! Never going there again!

I have just received a £100 parking fine for being stuck in the traffic leaving. I’m going to report to the council and the local papers it is a disgrace. This needs to be stopped now

Don’t bother using this retail park if you drive and intend to visit shops and eat. The parking restrictions are too tight. 3 hours is not long enough and you will be screwed over £100 if you go one minute over. I will never go there again. No wonder the footfall is falling in shops. Buy online- the postage is cheaper than a hefty parking fine.

I will not use this retail park again on principal as it is not fair to fine consumers who are supporting the onsite retailers. I invested over £120 at Greenham Retail Park only to receive £100 fine. The landowner wants to review this parking policy. I shopped here not realising parking time restrictions had been introduced. Why 3 hours? Cannot understand the logic as people go to a retail park to shop at leisure – have something to eat, browse etc. You can easily overstay by 3 hours without realising. Instead of fining £100 why not state there is a charge for going over 3 hours, e.g. £2.00 for each hour exceeding. This definitely would be fairer to the consumer but, maybe this would not generate the same level of revenue.

Agree with everything else written here - just got my fine through the post - it's a complete disgrace - I will never return - it['s a joke - they do not need to do this as it's not like you can park there and go somewhere else (for free parking) - they need to think again - I just hope more people boycott this place.

Parking is a joke just got a £100 fine who are these criminals running this. Will not shop here again which is a shame as some good shops. Shop owners you should protest to this you are loosing business due to these criminals charging £100 to park for 3 hours and 1 minute. You should be ashamed I don't know how you sleep at night.

Similar to others, I have just received £100 fine for staying over 3 hours. Had no idea that there was a time limit. Furious and will not be visiting this retail park again. Why on earth is allowed to happen. Surely the shops would welcome shoppers who will be visiting more than one shop and also stopping to have something to eat and drink. Totally disgraceful!!

I have just received a parking ticket for a Bank Holiday, 10 minutes over catching up with an old friend in Costa, I use the Retail Park regularly, but not now. I am still getting over the shock and so annoyed!

I had a parking ticket for £100 i wrote an email to appeal against it as don’t think 3 hours is enough time. Especially as at the time of my ticket I had a 4 month old and a 2 year old. I would have spent some time shopping and queing then had to breastfeed my son and have lunch with my daughter and then change nappies before getting back to the car. I was 20 mins over the 3 hour limit. I think it’s a joke and it should be replaced by a pay and display machine instead of £100 for 3 hour parking! My appeal was declined. I won’t be shopping here again.

If you go shopping here make sure to don’t spend more than 3 hours. That includes time when entering car park to leaving. I got a £100 for being 20 mins over. Shops are good but a real distraction when it come to your parking. I would shop online next time as it’s all the usual big shops, nothing there if you are looking for different shops. You can’t pay for extra parking time it’s 3 hours and that’s your lot don’t return within 2 hours.

Beware if you shop here the parking is terrible. You are very likely to get a £100 fine. At busy times it’s difficult to find a place and you will queue to leave the car park. Your car is filmed entering and leaving if you are 1 min over you get a £100 so don’t get distracted at the 14 shops there are there or have a pizza or coffee. In fact my advice is shop online all the shops here have online shopping and cheaper even when paying delivery. This car park is run by a private firm in Liverpool who are only interested in making money if you go slightly over the 3 hours of free parking. If you get a ticket it is a civil matter not a criminal offence, so up to you if you pay or not. It will not effect your credit rating or make you a criminal, it is run by very unfair people who just want to rip you off. Shop elsewhere I know I will be. Sorry Newbury and the local people who work there the car park situation will kill the shops there. Retail shopping used to be good as it was free parking now with time limits i

Just received £100 fine for parking at Newbury retail park for parking over 3 hours. I have all my receipts to show I was shopping there for the 3 hours but still have to pay the fine. Won't be going back there again. If there was parking meters I would have been happy to pay instead I now have to pay a rip off fine.

I have just received a parking fine for parking for over 3 hours at newbury retail park. We visited from Basingstoke for a coffee and to shop. 3 hours is not long enough to go round the shops and have coffee or lunch with friends. The shops will suffer as like others I will not be returning to Newbury retail park. It is ridiculous to have these restrictions when you are shopping, meeting friends and supporting the retailers there. A friend has just told me that there is a brand new shiny sign at the entrance now saying 3 hours max. Very helpful after the fines have been issued. Avoid avoid avoid.

What a rip off! £100 fine for going over 3 hours and only by 30 mins. I have never spotted parking signs and been going for years. Maybe you need to put a large sign up on entering.

received a notice today like the last few reviews for parking 3 hrs 31 mins on 15 Dec,have used the retail park for many years to support local retail in view of the large town centers within 20 miles,but will not return as 3 hrs is not enough esp with no return in 2 hours.A total scam

I have just received a parking fine for parking for over 3 hours at newbury retail park. I have been going to the retail park for years and was unaware there were any parking restrictions, how long have these restrictions been in place?! 3 hours is not long enough to go round the shops and have coffee or lunch with friends. Just received a £100 fine for staying in the car park for more than 3 hours. There's so many shops it's impossible to get around them, have a coffee and get out the car park in this time. There's no indication you are being photographed entering and exiting. What a scam, unfortunately it spoilt an enjoyable visit. We came from Basingstoke, brought our custom to Newbury....Never again

This place stinks.Yet another scam to get the motorist but this time its the carpark and the landowners.These shops are having a hard enough time without the parking vampires adding to it

I have just received a parking fine for Newbury Retail Park, and i didnt know that there was parking restrictions. I have been shopping and eating up at the park for years but I.m afraid that will all have to stop as 3hours isnt no where near long enough to visit all shops and have a coffee with friends and something to eat. Surely the shop owners must have some say in this matter. You only need to have a slight problem in one of the shops for example waiting for a purchase and you could be over the time.On a Saturday it can take you nearly 30 minutes to get out of the car park when there is conjestion on the by-pass. Oh what stress.!!!!!!.

Avoid it or pay the £100 to park! A large shopping centre with a great variety and places to eat, but you have a maximum of 3hrs and cannot return within 2hrs... if you visit, shop quickly and get out or be charged charged £100 for the privilege of shopping- GO ELSEWHERE!
